Neil's Note

Neil Conner

We received .4 inch of rain when the cold front came in Monday. There continues to be chances of rain through a very cold Tuesday and on into Wednesday. Give thanks for the showers of blessing!

The Bible often speaks of God as “light.” David said, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Psalm 27:1

Jesus said; “I am the light of the world.” John 8:12

 The disciple John said; “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

Our very existence on earth depends on light, the light energy from the sun. Like the sun, God needs nothing for sustenance. All things depend on God for life. He is the creator of the sun.

Just as physical life depends upon the sun, all life--physical and spiritual, depends upon God.

Through the chemical phenomenon we call photosynthesis, plants derived food from the energy of the sun. We in turn get all our nourishment from plants or from animals which live off of these plants. God uses light, physical and spiritual light, to give us life.

Jesus also said; “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

The earth is completely dependent upon the sun to sustain the life here, the warmth of the sun prevents us from freezing, besides supplying the energy for all plants.

When we get to heaven we will not need sun nor moon, “for the glory of God did give light to it, and the Lamb (Christ) is the light thereof.”

In Isaiah 6:2 it suggests that the Angels cover their eyes because they cannot stand the brightness of His glory. God would only allow Moses to see His reflection off the rocks, or else Moses would have died. That is some serious light!

Is it any wonder that Jesus compared himself to light? Light shows us the way. Light gives comfort. Light gives us security. Light gives life!

When I was writing this, I thought of a song that was in an earlier Baptist hymnal, “The light of the World is Jesus.”

1) The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,

The Light of the world is Jesus!

Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;

The Light of the world is Jesus.

2) No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;

The Light of the world is Jesus!

We walk in the light when we follow our Guide!

The Light of the world is Jesus!

3) Ye dwellers in darkness with sin-blinded eyes,

The Light of the world is Jesus!

Go, wash at His bidding, and light will arise;

The Light of the world is Jesus!

4) No need of the sunlight in Heaven we’re told;

The Light of the world is Jesus!

The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold,

The Light of the world is Jesus!

Chorus:

Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;

Sweetly the light has dawned upon me;

Once I was blind, but now I can see:

The Light of the world is Jesus!

If a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him. John 11:10

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
